COMMUNIQUÉ OF THE MAPUCHE COMMUNITIES FROM FURILOFCHE WARRIA – PUELMAPU
The Mapuche communities gathered together in the face of the violent and disproportionate operation deployed by the Judicial Power, the Ministries of National Security and Security of the state Río Negro, the hegemonic media and the political powers against our pu peñi ka pu lamgen (brothers and sisters) of the Lafken Winkul Mapu community, we send our people and society the following report:
List of detainees, including children:
– Machi Betiana Colhuan Nahuel (*)
– Nekulpangui Liwen (4 months)
– Luciana Jaramillo
– Celeste Huenumil
– Lienkura Mañke (1 month)
– Debora Daniela Vera
– Andrea Despo Cañuqueo
– Florencia Melo
– Romina Rosas, who is 40 weeks pregnant.
They are detained at the headquarters of the Airport Police (PSA). All of them are being held incommunicado. THEY ARE ALL ON HUNGER STRIKE DEMANDING THEIR RELEASE. There is still no response from the federal judge in charge,
The federal judge in charge is Silvina Domínguez and as far as we know she has issued a search warrant. There is still secrecy of summary proceedings. We only know from the media that the arrest warrant for the members of the lof Lafken Winkul Mapu has been issued.
Judge Dominguez is not responding to the lawyers of the APDH and the Liga Argentina por los Derechos del Hombre who have come forward as part of the defence of the detainees. Given this situation, we have not been able to obtain more information on the court case.
There has been no intervention from the Ministry of Women, Gender and Diversity of the Nation, nor from SENAF (National Secretariat for Children, Adolescents and Family) regarding the situation of the detained babies.
We do not know the status of the pu peñi and pu lamgen who are in the territory, nor if they violated the machi’s rewe (sacred altar), which numerous communities of the Puelmapu attended. We do not know where our machi sister’s ceremonial elements are. Nor do we know the state of the animals or the families’ homes.
There are members of the Federal Police, the Special Operations Group of the PSA, Gendarmería, Río Negro Police and COER (Río Negro Special Operations and Rescue Corps) on the road and within the community’s territory.
Pu Pichikeche (children) were taken into custody yesterday after 8 p.m. They are in good general health, although affected by the disproportionate deployment of the Unified Command created by the National Ministry of Security. There is still no mechanism in place to protect their mental health. Nor was there any during the operation, despite the fact that federal judge Domínguez knew that there were minors in the territory.
The hegemonic media, meanwhile, continue to stigmatize our people, giving false information and exposing the identity of people in an arbitrary manner.
We know that in the morning hours of this morning, police forces continued to enter the territory with dogs, drones and tactical groups. Far from stopping the violence, the HUNTING OF MAPUCHE continues.
WE DEMAND THE IMMEDIATE CESSATION OF THE PERSECUTION OF OUR PU PEÑI KA PU LAMGEN AND THAT THEIR LIVES BE GUARANTEED.
WE DEMAND THE IMMEDIATE RELEASE OF OUR MACHI BETIANA COLHUAN NAHUEL, PU ZOMO MAPUCHE AND PU PICHIKECHE.
WE DEMAND THAT OUR REWE BE RESPECTED AND THAT OUR HUMAN, TERRITORIAL AND CULTURAL RIGHTS BE GUARANTEED.

A Mapuche woman is giving birth in detention while the other 6 will be transferred to Buenos Aires.
Federal Judge Silvina Domínguez informed the defence lawyers that the Mapuche women detained from Lof Winkul Mapu will be transferred to the city of Buenos Aires. They were given no further information about this measure.
More than 36 hours later, 7 Mapuche women are still detained, one of them 40 weeks pregnant, and two children who are months old. They are being held at the headquarters of the Airport Security Police (PSA). Some are still being held incommunicado.
As reported by the journalist Adriana Meyer at 10.20 p.m.: «Romina Rosas is giving birth in the hospital».
Federal judge Silvina Domínguez denied them release on formal grounds. In some cases, because the requests were presented by defence lawyers who are not appointed in the case, which is difficult if the women are being held incommunicado.
The group also includes the machi from the lof Lafken Winkul Mapu, Betiana Colhuan Nahuel. They denounced that their cultural guidelines are not being respected. They are all on hunger strike.
These families have been living in the lof for five years and have been demanding their ancestral lands. There is no reason to keep Mapuche women and children in detention.
