Eviction notice for Lof Pailako: If they do not withdraw voluntarily, ‘public force will be used’.
From (Mapuche) Territory informed that January 2, at 8:00 am, the officer of justice together with the federal police, Danilo Hernández Otaño (Intendant of Los Alerces National Park), Laura Fenoglio and Parks personnel, were present in the Territory to leave an eviction notice dated January 9, in addition to touring the rukas (homes). They have five working days to leave the territory voluntarily, or else ‘public force will be used’. The Lof Pailako is a Mapuche community with several generations of territorial roots that decided to recover their ancestral territory in 2020, occupied by Los Alerces National Park. They denounce the possibility of a large-scale repressive deployment, ordered by Judge Otranto (known for his participation in the case of the forced disappearance of the anarchist Santiago Maldonado, who was in solidarity with the demands of the Mapuche Nation). Otranto gave in to the demand of the administration of National Parks under the presidency of Cristian Larsen and the Governor of Chubut.
Cruz Cárdenas and his partner Belén Salina are descendants of ancient settlers of the region of Lake Futalafken (Lago Grande). In the year 2020 they decided to return to the ancestral territories from which their ancestors had been expelled.
‘A criminal disguised as a Mapuche’, is how Cristian Larsen, president of National Parks, refers to Cruz Cárdenas, a descendant of the former settlers, on his twitter account. In the same video, Laura Fenoglio, park ranger of Los Alerces National Park and owner of several real estate developments in the territory they call ‘Patagonia’, or ‘Puelmapu’ its original name, appears.

CALL FOR NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL SOLIDARITY WITH THE MAPUCHE-TEHUELCHE PEOPLE TO VISIBILIZE THE VIOLENCE OF THE ARGENTINEAN AND CHILEAN STATES, EXTRACTIVE CORPORATIONS AND NATIONAL PARKS.
WE NEED TO STOP THE EVICTION OF THE LOF (COMMUNITY) PAILAKO AND THE WAR AGAINST THE LOF IN RESISTANCE!!!
The undersigned repudiate the eviction of the Lof Pailako and demand the opening of a dialogue with the authorities of the National Administration of National Parks. In January 2020, the Lof (community) Pailako made an ancestral territorial claim in a sector occupied – through conquest and colonisation – by the Los Alerces National Park, near the town of Esquel, province of Chubut in Puelmapu, Argentine Patagonia. Since then, they have been living there, protecting the native forest and all the lives that live there. They raise their children recovering the Mapuche-Tehuelche cosmovision, building a space for Mapuche education.
The civil lawsuit in which the ancestral rights of the members of the lof could be settled, sleeps in a drawer of the Argentinean justice system, without giving the possibility of bringing to light the traditional occupation of this territorial space by some of its members, who are the fifth generation of the families that lived there, long before the creation of National Parks. The eviction order is the result of the application of an internal law that regulates the functioning of the Parks, sanctioned during the last civil and ecclesiastical military dictatorship.
The area is coveted by real estate, mining, forestry and hydroelectric interests. Today the lof is a stumbling block to the advance of capitalist extractivism.
We also add our support to Lof Buenuelo, Lof Quemquentrew, Lof Cayunao, Lof Lafquen Winkul Mapu, as well as to Machi Cristobal de Gulumapu and pu peñi pu lamngen in resistance throughout Wallmapu. We raise newen in the intense search for the Guardian of the territory Julia Chuñil.
FOR ALL THIS, WE CALL ON PEOPLE, COLLECTIVES AND PEOPLES TO SUPPORT THIS COMMUNIQUE EXPRESSING SOLIDARITY TO THE DIFFERENT STRUGGLES FOR LIFE THAT THE LOF IN RESISTANCE AND PARTICULARLY THE PAILAKO LOF ARE RAISING.
